Our place

The Marquis of Pombal, placed Marcos Pombalinos (stones) in the valley telling the world that these were the best vineyards in the Douro.

We are the only Quinta with three of these quality markers still on our land today. We believe this is an integral part of our identity, and that is why it is reflected in our logo....

The Stones

The stones are an integral part of the Pedra Alta history. They are called 'Marcos Pombalinos'

They were named after the 1st Marquis of Pombal, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, who was the 1st Count of Oeiras and a powerful prime-minister who ruled Portugal from 1750 to 1777....

The Lagares

One of the fascinating things about the Douro is that foot treading grapes is still very much part of the winemaking process

The Douro

Quinta da Pedra Alta, meaning high stone, is located in Soutelinho-Favaios near Alijó in the Cima Corgo sub region of the Douro Valley.

The combination of the soils, the vineyards, vines and grapes is unique and defines so strongly our land.

On our terraces you will find vines which are more than 40 years old, alongside more recent plantings....
